Antimatter

I bought their first album "Saviour" expecting great things, and sadly, I was very disappointed.

Am I the only one thinking that if it wasn't Duncan Patterson from Anathema, that it would be classed as a second rate trip hop/dub attempt?

It's like dumbed down trip hop for metal people. "It's ok to like it cos he was in anathema and now I'm a trip hop fan."

The instruments and samples sounded like... yknow.. something from a Fisher Price machine and the music just seemed a bit too obvious and simple really.

Correct me if I'm wrong though. I've really tried to like it.. I just found it to be a bit wrong..

Hi Col,

I respect your position but I think that this album is awsome. The lyrics are good, male and female vocals are a very good combination, the melodies are in my head for a long long time too. PLease, give it a second chance.

I've given it millions of chances.

It's like.. I almost like it.. but then.. I think.. nahh..

it's just not right somehow.

I hate the male vocals too.. I only really like michelle's vocals on that cd.
Psalms is a nice song.. but again, it's really obvious and simple. maybe a bit too much..

God is Coming was nearly quite good... But the sounds and production is so plastic it's like what.. the god made of lego?

That's a case of a CD's potential being destroyed by very dodgy production.
I don't want to be able to imagine someone pressing buttons or pressing keys on a bad keyboard when I hear the music. I want to experience it as if it's come out of someone's body or soul.. not their bad fisherprice keyboard.

I dunno. it's just faulty.

I love Antimatter, and had never even heard of Anathema before getting Lights Out. I still have yet to hear any Anathema, but I know the band exists now. ;)

I prefer Lights Out over Savior, but both are great.

I liked Saviour somewhat, especially God is Coming which sounded quite a bit like Gridlock (nowhere near as good as Gridlock though), but it was unfulfilling. Lights Out is atrocious. It's one of the worst albums I have ever heard. I was extremely disappointed with it, especially in the repetition and the fact that it is aimless and pointless banal excursions into tedious mundanity.

The acoustic unplugged stuff rules though, which shows that they should not be fiddling with electronics, as it is obviously beyond their skill.

If you want to hear a metal band who actually did quite wonderfully with electronics (even better than their metal stuff, if I do say so myself), try The 3rd and the Mortal.
