if yer stucked at the desktop, without the explorer, ctrl+alt+del , then on the task manager (if it loads... it does most of the time, but not ALWAYS with this kind of problem) File / New task (run) , and type 'explorer' without the qotes. Quick fix. Or not a fix at all it just works when boot is fucked up you know

- remove the hdd with all the precious stuff
- insert into different computer, virusscan and backup
- re-insert hdd back in to your computer
- windows repair install from the cd (no formatting)

I do something similar. First:

1. Open the Task Manager
2. Under "Processes", close "Explorer.exe" (* This will make everything appear to be closed)
3. Goto File/New Task and enter "explorer.exe"
4. Enjoy a problem free computer for a day or two

Do not format it dude! First do what one of the dudes above said about testing the hard drive in a separate computer, if that doesn't work, then I'm not sure whats wrong. More details are needed man, like what was being done that last time it worked, that sort of crap.


Also, if nothing works, if you can, slowly send all your important files to a external hard drive or usb key, if you really need whats on this computer anyway. i'm not the most technical at computers, but when they start fucking up like this, and theres something important on there, I'd do anything to get those files back! Even if it took days like it could by slowly sending the most important files.

if hardware just remove it physically.
Besides the "ctrl + alt + canc -> explorer.exe" trick I can't think about something better to do

Set your HD-jumper to slave, add a master drive with a stable Windows installation on it, scan your hard-drive for viruses, then backup everything on a new drive, then try a windows repair.

i don't have any problems no matter the SO 'cause i just save everyting on other disc, so on the main drive, there's always a clean win install, and nothing else. (do disc images and all that offtopic shit)

thanks guys yeah i've already used the crtl alt delete thing yeah it works but it doesn't make the explorer functional the issue is i have 3% of hD space left and it needs to be defragged like hell so. yeah haha
