Any fans of the new Dream Theater here?

Meh, they had a song like that on Awake as well. And a song on I&W that aped Rush. It's plagued them their whole career. I think they do it on purpose.

there was one part on the new DT cd where Labrie even sounded like Chester, or so i thought last night when i listened to it! must've been on the first couple of tracks 'cause i didn't last any longer than that!

I liked Falling Into Infinity. It was better than the overwrought Metropolis Pt. 2. Train of Thought was a fucking joke, though. And I haven't been particularly impressed by the new songs, either. What happened to stuff like "The Glass Prison" or "Caught in a Web"????

my faves are ..

1. images and words
2. when dream and day unite
3. train of thought
... the rest i don't care about ... pure wankery ... musical masturbation overload ...

i thought TOT was certainly their most straight forward record with actual songs ...
since the early releases ...

i only ever owned Images and Words and Scenes Pt.2 and one day a switch flipped in my head and from then on LaBrie's vocals drove me insane, so i sold the cds for 25cents each at some store downtown :loco: i suppose i wasn't into ebay or anything back then.

bahahahaha

I'd say he got his money's worth.

Never been a DT fan, I think I have Images and Words on my computer but never listened to it much even during the brief period when I only listened to prog and power metal.

I'm sorry I waited until right before going to bed to listen to this because now I'm going to be up all night with my head in a tizzy.

That's freakin' uncanny.

I'm liking the new one more than TOT if only for the sole reason that they made a conscious effort to avoid that album's excesses and the epic closing track, but their eager to please everyone who hated the last or everything since Awake works against them just as much as pointless jamming does...
And the ludicrous pinched vocal on Panic Attack is hilarious. One of those moments that's so musically incorrect but entertaining you can't help but love it.
