I am a recent Hammers fan. I bought Locust Years first and then August Engine. Right now, Locust Years is just owning my CD players! This will likely be me #1 disc for the year.
Of their 3 albums, I listen to August Engine the most, but I admire The Bastard more than that. Locust Years will push continuously into my ipod playlist for a good long while.
August Engine = probably one of the top 5 albums of all time (and I've been listening to metal since 1984)
The Bastard = utter genius
Locust Years = very excellent
Overall, the band is outstanding - you could write a thesis on their music (and some people have tried, haha). The fact that they can't be categorized has to be a good thing. Nothing derivative about them.
The BAstard= is such an amazing original peice of work....Its my fave out of all 3..They bring alot of male/female interludes that are missing from there other 2..LOst of hooky melodies as well....THey rule
The only drawback with The Bastard for me is that it's not quite as consistent as The August Engine, but yes, it probably has some of their best songs.
