My girlfriend wants to move to Tennessee. She wants to be near her family. But I'm from the north and I'm brown(puerto rican)! Am I going to have problems down there? Because a lot of people tell me that there is a lot of prejudice down there. And how are the jobs? Plus how is the music scene? Because I would want to join a band also. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Wow, the south is predjudice. Never heard that before.

You'll have to do a lot of telling people that you're 'rican and not a "damned mexican" here to steal there jobs and women. And unless you like country, you can forget the music scene. Tennessee is home to the country music capitol of the world. However it's also the home of good ole Jack Daniels*. I'm from Georgia, visited TN a few times and for what it's worth, it's a historically rich state. But don't worry about the whole "predjudice" thing. It's not as bad in the south as ppl lead you to believe. Alabama though..that's a whole different story. Steer clear of bama.

Hmmm. Thanks for being honest man. The music scene is a big let down though....Were going down there end of April to visit. I have to see for myself. Still a little wary though. Thanks again for the info.

No sweat. I'm sure there is a metal scene in Nashville but it's not going to be anywhere near what your used to maybe. I'm southern. A 'Redneck Punk' if you will. And I'm not a racist by any means...black cousins, Peuto Rican bro in law, latina girlfriend. For the most part, especially our generation, is tolerant to ethnicity. Only a few good loe boys 'n girls (racists) remain. Fuck those few. Have a good trip. Visit the Jack Daniels* distillery. They give out free drinks. Yeah, c'mon!

*once again, edit

Even more of an urge...

Then this surely won't help you.

Whiskey Fact #1

Mellow Out
Charcoal-mellowing refers to a process used to make Tennessee whiskey, such as Jack Daniel's. The process involves slowly dripping the newly made whiskey through giant containers hard-packed with 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. The process takes ten days, and during this time the whiskey absorbs the essence of the charcoal, refining the spirit and giving it a unique flavor and aroma.

Mmmmmmmmm, whiskey.:Spin:

Everything Hollywood has told you about the South is bullshit.
I was born in Mississippi in 1974, and (aside from a couple years) have continued living here. I have seen a Klu Klux Klansman only ONCE in my lifetime, and guess what... He was fake...An extra in a bullshit Hollywood film called A TIME TO KILL. Southern states are no different than any other state in the Union. Only the accents of the residents differ.
We have malls...We have fast food restaurants...We have interstates and highways...We have music...We have theaters...We have museums...We have culture...We have good people...And, we have assholes.
By the way, my parents live in Nashville, and there is just as much non-country music to be enjoyed there as country music.
