Anyone in the Spokane, Wa area?

Hi Metal – I do think there is a poster on the forum who lives in Spokane. I grew up there…but when I went back for my 20-year high school reunion, the downtown shopping area had changed so much that I couldn’t even get my bearings!

I wasn’t old enough to go clubbing when I lived there, so I can’t be of much help in terms of the local music scene. However, if you see the Spokane Opera House, you will be at the site of my first concert – Night Ranger, Keel and Black’n’Blue.

At the end of July, there is a very cool Baroque arts festival that takes place downtown at Riverfront Park. A couple of favorite downtown restaurants that are still standing are Cyrus O’Leary’s and Clinkerdagger’s. Summertime is Huckleberry season, so if you find Huckleberry *anything* on the menu, definitely take advantage!

If you are willing to spend a couple of hours in a car, there are a lot of cool day trip opportunities. We used to go to Pend Orielle Lake in Sandpoint, Idaho a lot when I was growing up. Also, Coeur d’Alene, ID was quite the sleepy little town when I was living in WA, but apparently it is now quite the trendy place to be, with incredibly expensive homes.

Enjoy – wish I was going with you! (It’s 113 degrees in Phoenix today). :ill:

Not sure what the car situation will be, but I'd kind of like to get to Seattle to see if I can find Layne Staley's tombstone.

Seattle would be a lot harder to do as a day trip, although it’s a fabulous area in the summer if you have time to stay a day or two.

Interesting story – when I was growing up, my family used to trek from Spokane to Seattle a couple of times a year. When I went back for my 10-year reunion, I flew into Seattle to visit with a friend for a few days, and then she was going to drive me to Spokane.

We got into an argument when discussing what time to leave, because I thought she was cutting it WAY too close for me to get to the opening reception on time. She insisted that it took 4 ½ hours to travel from Seattle to Spokane, and I swore that it took 6.

Finally, she said, “Kimberly, you are NOT riding in your parents’ station wagon on this trip.”

Oh. End of argument.
