I've decided I've had enough of California and sunshine and want to head north. I've pretty much set myself on Issaquah and even have a place picked out. But I'm curious what people here think of the region.

And if you're worst criticism is it's boring, that's fine with me.

Issaquah is a rapidly growing suburb a ways to the east of Seattle and nearer the Cascade mountains. As far as I know, as I don't spend much time there, it is your standard issue northwestern suburb. I doubt it is boring. There are a good amount of shopping centers and strip malls in the town and of course all the mountains and outdoor activities are right there as well. If you love hiking and biking and things like that, you'll never have a shortage of things to do. It is also within reasonable driving distance to Seattle, so you can have the city life as well if you want. I actually know a few people that live in Seattle city limits and travel to Issaquah for work every day.

Just curious, what made you decide on Issaquah over other cities in the area? Regardless, you will love it here. ANd it has been consistently sunny and hot since about the end of June, so summer is not the best time to come to Seattle to escape sunshine :)

The North West is killer. Lots to do nature wise as Shpongled mentioned. I live north of Seattle on Whidbey Island and it is great. I live in California as well. I would never go back, maybe to visit, but that is it. Been up here since 2001.

That is a story of DNB proportions. Over the last 20 years, the name of a city has randomly popped into my head and a few years later I wound up living there. In 1990, I picked Stamford, CT, even though I never visited there. Two years later I left RI for a job in Stamford.

A year later, I predicted Manhattan Beach. I don't know why. I had no idea what was there. Two years later I landed in Marina Del Rey, 10 minutes north of NB. Close enough. Several years ago, I said San Mateo was next. I moved to Belmont, once city to the south.

The next city to call is Seattle. For the last 3 years or so, I just knew I would move there. The thing is, I didn't want to live in Seattle proper because a) I've lived in enough looney leftist areas and wanted a more moderate neighborhood, and b) Seattle is considered overdue for a magnitude 7 quake or higher, and your seawalls are 100 years old. After the big one hits, I figure Issaquah will be beachfront property. Seriously though, I wanted to be east of Mercer Island.

I originally wanted to work for Microsoft. After reading that horrible Vanity Fair article last year, that ended any interest in working there. Before you ask, Google it. :p
