Arcturus

The reissue is remixed, remastered, and has a bonus disc including old and unreleased material. AND, it's pretty cheap at theendrecords.com!

Hey, I've one question that might be sligthly off-topic, but I don't wanna start a new thread, so here it goes.

There are two tracks on Reconstellation, which I'm not sure if they appear on any other Arcturus release. They are the remake of Morax and Radiant Star Befallen. Now there's the problem: Since Reconstellation is an unofficial bootleg, how have those tracks been found to put there?

I prefer the original AHS and I'm actually not sure why. However by getting the reissue, you'll get Constellation EP as well, which is KICK-ASS in my opinion. The atmosphere is what it should be.

id recommend the sham mirrors for a start as well, as its the easiet record to get into i believe.

but they are all great, so it doesnt really matter

Funny, I was wondering the same thing today... anyone?

Cut'n'paste from the last Arcturus thread on the Opeth forum from a week or two ago:

Protocol's Arcturus discography:

My Angel 7'' 1991 1100 copies (another 2-7 hundred bootlegs on red vinyl 1997?)
Rather drab except for the real funky 1½ last minutes of Morax.

Constellation promo-cd 1994 500 copies (plus 500 vinyl bootlegs)
Early versions of four of the tracks from Aspera Hiems Symfonia, all of which are better on AHS. Recorded without bass as I recall.

Reconstellation bootleg 199?
Includes Constellation and My Angel and two tracks called Morax Anno 1996 ev. and Outro (Radiant Star Befallen). I don't know what those are supposed to be, but this is a nice easy way to get hold of the first two releases if you want to hear them.

Aspera Hiems Symfonia cd 1994 (digipack only?)
Very nice indeed. I'd buy this cd if I could find a non-digipack release. Gotta hate those bloody digipacks.

La Masquerade Infernale cd 1997
Thoroughly brilliant. Their best. Go get it.

Masters of Disguise cd 1999 (intro + new track + remixes)
Very mixed release. Some tracks are brilliant and others I can't stand. Recommended!

The Sham Mirrors cd 2002
Some rather catchy tunes but I can't stand half the vocals. Too much cheese.

Aspera Hiems Symfonia + Constellation + My Angel dcd 2002 (remastered)
The remastering is rather uneven - it reveals previously hidden parts in the mix, some of which is good but it also brings defects to the front. Some tracks are cut short at the end (just a fraction of a second but still annoying) and some vocals have been re-recorded. I particularly dislike the sham-mirrorish cheese howl in Raudt og Svart.
On the whole I'd rather play the originals with some equalizing magic than the remastered ones. The two session leftovers extra tracks are rather worthless. Constellation might be remastered but I don't think My Angel is, not that I see any point in remastering Constellation. If you don't mind digipack you're better off getting the AHS original and the Reconstellation bootleg.

Aspera was first released in digipak by Ancient Lore Creations. I know because that's the version I have. It was however later rereleased in jewelcase by Century Media and that's not the reissue with Constellation and My Angel as bonus tracks. There were no bonus tracks on that. The one with bonuses is recently issued by Candlelight.

Now there's one thing concerning about the CM rerelease which occupies my mind. There's one song missing in the backcover, Naar Kulda Taar. Is it missing in the cd as well or is it included as a hidden track?

Thene is plenty of cheese singing on The Sham Mirrors, and there's a cheese howl in the remastered AHS Raudt og Svart. The other albums are all free from it. Disguised Masters has some techno crapish, but mostly it's good stuff - no cheese.

"Aspera Hiems symfonia" was also released on pic-disc in 1000 copies. I have No. 2!!!
"LMI" was also released on vinyl, but I don't know how many copies was pressed (probably 1000 too). I have ordered "TSM" on vinyl, but haven't gotten it yet (crappy slow Disczone shit!).
