Are bananas really expensive in Europe?

What's this talk about bananas? They're going extinct anyway. Some sort of mold is kicking its ass.

but what will happen to banana splits then?
and here they are really cheap, not sure how much

one Mexican guy is surprised bananas are cheap in Brasil... and the other say they are also cheap in Mexico. Who is right after all? I think the 2nd one, since bananas are abundant in those small countries of central america near Mexico.

well I dont go shopping much for fruits, but in general every foreigner that comes here freaks out at how cheap fruits are and buys them like crazy...

Fruit isn't all that expensive in the UK, but since coming to the US I have noticed fruit is VERY expensive here for some reason. No wonder there are so many fat people here ;)

Yep, all the ones that we seem to like (not the big starch label footballs that they were derived from) are clones, only obtained by splicing.

Naturally, we've let most of the actual breedstock (those that reproduce using male and female components) die out, as they don't make a commercial product.

No genetic diversity means that when a disease finds the combination to the lock, there's no stopping it.

BTW, theyre about $2.00US downunder per kilo

i usually pay about £7 per banana.

However, I am incredibly rich and served by indonesian child slave labour, so the price doesn't bother me that much.

but pineapples are very stable, prize-wise: whereas you have a season-dependant range of banana prize from 49cents to 1.50euro per kilo, pineapples always cost the same: around 3,60 per piece
