As I lay dying Adam d c414 c214

Yeah. After messing with all of these mics, I have to say that md421 sounds unnatural to me. I am most definitely buying some c214's for Tom sampling.

we used a pair of 214's on toms in a session a few months ago, sounded stunning on the hi tom, ended up using an i5 on the floor, it worked out more in our favor at the time. could have worked out better given more time on placement.

personally very big fan of the MD421 on toms works so well on kick. :)

Was looking at getting a C214 instead of forking out for a full c414. Apparently they sound quite different to the 414 in cardoid mode and aren't the same.

My plan was to get a 214, use that till I got some more cash and then get a 414 and I'd be able to use the 214 as a paired mic with the 414 in cardoid mode but according to most info on forums they're not in the same league at all.

Shame, I used the c414 a few times in college and it was my favourite mic. I prefered it to the u87

He doesn't really post here anymore brah. He has his own forum though if you want to go touch tips.

414's are so nice for rooms, a guy i did work experience with twice local to me had a 414 on omni and crushed it with a 1176, this was placed in this small chamber on the entrance to the drums, you guys have probably heard this a million times but as someone whos just a beginner i thought this was a real nice room sound!

441's are where it's at on inside kick and off axis guitar cab. You can have condensors on kick and snare too, I saw someone dismiss it before, but 47 FET on the outside kick, and KM84 & 421 next to each other on the snare. Use each mic for their qualities, whether you want more or less body/crack/etc.
