We finally rolled into the bustling metropolis that is Des Moines, and I was severely underwhelmed. Des Moines is less like a city and more like an experiment in lack of sensory input. Everything is remarkably bland, the scenery blending together into a dull beige almost everywhere we looked – with the notable exception of the sushi restaurant.

I think one's opinion of a town/city is muchly colored by 1) what you're used to and 2) what your requirements are for a city. It's ever so trendy to bash midwestern places but lots of them are pretty cool, especially if they have a large college.

i enjoyed des moines.

my onl;y problem was that the hot dogs and taquitos i got at the gast station on the way out made me ill but i don't blame des moines for that.
