Audio Technica AT-4050?

Can anyone recommend this mic for miking up a 4x12 cab? I have heard that a lot of heavy bands like Slipknot and such are now recording with these exclusively.
Can I get some real users opinions on teaming this up with a SM-57?

I can't recommend it for that, because I haven't tried it. But it's a nice mic. I have used a 4040 mixed with a 57 on guitar with pretty interesting results. I don't know how different the 4040 and 4050 actually sound though, haven't compared them side by side.

I once used it in addition with the sm 57 and it was okay but I wouldn´t recommend it as a stand alone for micing up a cab. The sm 57 is a much better choice.

If you're looking for a condenser to pair with your 57, check out an Audio Technica AE-3000. Killer mic with lots of uses actually and can often be found for cheap on eBay.

edit: I tried my AT4040 once on a cab and wasn't too impressed.

Recording my band's songs last time, engineer used AT4050 and some other AT on the cab and the sound was horrible :/ The TonePort made it better. Unfortunately we couldn't change the studio as we won the session at a festival.
