Audio Technica

Ha thanks :)
Damn I should have told I'm not going for tube microphones (because of weight, size and frailty to take into a plane).

Actually I was thinking about Audio Technica because I have a friend in Japan who could have brought it to me but it seems they are not much cheaper over there unfortunately.

It doesn't weigh too much, it comes with a seperate power supply unit that's also pretty light. Just package it carefully and taking it on a plane should be no biggie.

I LOVE the 4033 and 4040, and have had great success with the 4060 on overheads and vocals. The 4033 and 4040 work great on amps, vocals, overheads, acoustic guitars, toms, etc. I can't get enough of em, so versatile and cheap.

I can strongly recommend the 4047/SV. It's got an extremely smooth sound which I found a tad too dark when I first compared it to my other mics, but after becoming acquainted with it I realized that most LDCs in this pricerange are just ridiculously hyped in the high end. I've had more expensive mics, but this is the only one I can just plug in with no EQ and consistently get a great sound. A class-act all around.
In fact, anything AudioTechnica that begins with the numbers "4" and "0" is probably a good buy.
