they've been mentioned in a few threads, but i feel this band is of such epic greatness that they deserve their own thread really.
check them out:

their first record "concealed" was really really cool, but totally different from their new one. honestly i'm not quite sure which one i prefer.
the cool thing about concealed was the vocals: their had 2 singers, one of them being female and handling those operatic (not solely though) melodies etc, which is something i've never heared before in a death metal context. check out beatus, the first song off concealed....some killer guitar player in there too, e.g. the lead melody at the very end.

the new one, fragmentary evidence, doesn't feature these vocals anymore (sadly), but from a pure musical pov i think it's the better record, much more mature and diversified, with a LOT of really really cool parts/songs.

i also like both albums from a production pov....concealed had a more mechanic vibe esp regarding the drums, whereas the new one sounds just fat, organic, warm, and heavy as fuck.
mastering by james murphy btw, who did a killer job.....all of the guys involved (yannick st-amand, JF dagenais, and mr. murphy) did actually. it's a great album with a lot of depth.

sorry for the rambling, but it's tough to express the joy i feel when listening to this band in mere words.....

I really loved the first record but I found the second one to be quite generic, a total disappointment. I don't know who came up with the idea of removing the female singers, but that was a big fail, in my opinion.

Etienne is a great drummer!
His drums really "sing".. If that makes any sense.

Its going to be great working with him!

Both records are great, and Fragmentary Evidence is probably the best album of '09.

Lol, I've been friends with the Augury guys for years and I told them to ditch the fem vox when we played a show years ago...so I take credit for that haha.

Augury rules, the new disc is HUGE sounding, these guys deserve to be at the top of the heap. Respect.

I have been waiting quite along time for Fragmentary Evidence to come out and am quite pleased with it, though not totally overwhelmed.
Missed the female singing a little and it is a big WTF moment when they suddenly jump out into your face that single moment near the end of the album.
It seems to me there are less standout moments on Fragmentary Evidence for me than on Concealed, where about every song was easily identifiable by one of these moments. Though while listening to Fragmentary Evidence I notice many great parts, they don't stick in my memory as much.

The fretless bass playing is absolutely killer though, as was to be expected, especially after seeing Dominic Lapointe in the studio vid for Simian Cattle. Awesome, creative style of playing.

Oh, you evil person!. I met the guitarist from Neuraxis and we spoke about Augury and I told him how I missed the female singers, he told me one of them was his girlfriend, haha
