Hello from Spain.
I share with you another full cover project. A cover for the song "FAULT LINE" by AUGUST BURNS RED.
Everything created by me. No backing track sounding.
100% made by me in Drop A tuning. Original is one tone higher tuning.

- All Guitar Recording (SCHECTER KM7).
- Bass, Keys and Drums midi programming.
- Mixing and Mastering.

All constructive feedback are wellcome.
I hope you like it. THANK YOU.

Hi,

Cool cover!

It sounds very very bassy.
I think you should turn down the bass guitar, and bring more cymbals/hats.
More clarity in guitars probably would help too!

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your words.
Bass is 6 dB lower than guitars. Is too much? I like this way but i don´t know ...

Definitely way too much low end on it. Cymbals are almost inaudible. Sounds like the low end is hitting a bus compressor quite hard and choking out the top end a bit. Kick could do with a bit more punch or high mids/top end.

Snare sounds nice but it a little loud, try turning the velocities down on the blast beats etc. Midi velocity automation is absolutely essential to get a realistic drum sound from programmed drums.

Guitar tone sounds very mid heavy but nice, you could take out a bit of boxyness from it to open it up a bit.

Bass in the middle section is really, really loud.

It sounds like something on your master bus is working way to hard. When instruments pop out on their own they sound better than in the whole mix. What do you have on your master bus?

IMO The important thing is what you hear, not how many dB
But if you like the way it is, it's all good, I guess.

I think you should compare your mix with some other pro mix you love.
(not to make yours sound like it, but to get an idea of a good balance)

Thanks a lot for your comments.
I have tried to follow your advice and I have uploaded to soundcloud the two versions of the cover (Version 1 is the one that I uploaded to youtube).
In version 2 I have done the following steps:

Changes in the Master compressor to avoid thah low end destroy the mix
Increase the volume of the Cymbals
Decrease the volume of the bass guitar
Decrease the velocities of the snare in the blast beats
Give more click to the Kick
Try to reduce the boxiness of guitars

Do you think it has been better?
Would you move anything else?
Is any of the changes exaggerated or is the result worse than in version 1?

Thank you very much for your time

Yes, I agree, it sounds a lot better!
Nothing too exagerated for me.

My suggestion is to not upload to soundcloud when you want to get feedback on a mix :D
(sound quality on SC is very bad, listen to these hats)

Way better!

I think the only suggestions I'd really have now would be to add some high mids into the overheads (3k-6k) to get some front on those crashes. But the improvements are night and day. Great job!

Thanks a lot for your help.
I loved your work in Wearing Scars. Sounds really awesome. Besides working with ANDY JAMES, the guitar god jejeje.
