I dont think the $50 note is an invention! If I built a plane and painted it bright red I wouldnt get credited with a new invention!

We didn't invent the boomerang.

There is evidence of it in egypt before there is evidence of it here.

Also, we invented The Torrens Title. Which was the worlds first method of land registration.

and The notepad, The first refrigerator, latex gloves and the torpedo.

oh oh, and the paper machine gun belt which stopped the bastards of things from jamming every 10 seconds, making us even more efficient killing machines.

I'm with spawn on this one. An invention is a non-obvious solution to a problem. Otherwise it's just evolution. It's not like they spent days and days trying to figure out how they were going to represent a higher monetary figure than they had.

The *original* banknote was an invention. Everything following that was evolution.

So when someone puts out a Michael Jordan top with the number 50 on it, thats a new invention?

I'm also calling into question Penicillin. The original guy who found it but whose work was totally ignored was French, and Fleming was Scottish. However it was an Australian (Howard Walter Florey) working at Oxford who discovered a method of mass producing it.

And as discussed in previous threads, discoveries aren't inventions anyway.
