Babylon A.D. welcomes all rockers to B.A.D. Sunday Stories.
Every Sunday the band will be posting a video or song from their studio album catalog. Sharing an interesting tidbit about the song’s history. It begins with a short background of the band’s journey.
In 1988, Babylon A.D. moved from their original home of the San Francisco Bay Area to West Hollywood, where they rented a two bedroom apartment at the now infamous Saint James Apt Complex, where many up and coming bands, actors, models and Hollywood players lived.
The band had just moved in, and as fate would have it, three days later the legendary music mogul Clive Davis called the band’s manager to say he was flying to LA from NY and wanted to see the band the next day at SIR Studios where Arista Records had bought studio time for the band to perform.
Clive Davis arrived with three A&R reps and sat down on a big blue couch in front of the band.
The band hit the stage like a real show and tore through a seven song set. When they hit the final chord of “Kid Goes Wild”, Clive Davis jumped out of his seat and said these four words! “Welcome To The Family Boys!” Thus the wild journey of the band began.
Babylon A.D. was signed to a 10 album deal, ‘rare in those days’ and the debut produced by Simon Hanhart was released in October 1989.
The first single/video “Hammer Swings Down” hit radio and MTV and the band began touring the U.S.
Some interesting tidbits about the making of the “Hammer Swings Down” video:
Catch Babylon A.D. live at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, California on August 8, 2025. Their complete tour schedule can be found here.

Some interesting tidbits about the making of the “Hammer Swings Down” video:
- The video was shot at the Sepulveda Damn in LA on a huge stage with big roaming spotlights, boom cranes, railroad tracking for camera set-ups and many extras.
- This video cost over $100,000. Something that sounds astronomical now in our new world of making videos.
- The girl at the beginning of the video swinging the hammer is actress Julia Margulies (ER, The Good Wife).
