Band's bassists can't play drop A for beans.

This bassist has no idea what they are doing. Should I just program it? i doubt they'd even know. And will Trilian even sound good is freaking drop A? I feel like it would just sound like a low gurble.

Do whatever you need to to make the project sound as best as possible.

I'm thinking about programming it and tuning it up to the same octave as the guitar. That'll sound so much better.

Trilian and zombass can do drop A easily. Always have it tuned the same as your guitar. If you do end up programming the bass, tell the bassist, because he needs to understand that he's not a good enough musician to be recorded and needs practice etc.
