Here are some bands I'd watch for, they're musically heads and shoulders above the crowd, and so cool that penguins take lessons from them!

Illusion Suite: Amazing young prog metal band from Norway, melodic, great shredder, impressive vocalist, nothing but stuff to like here!

Twisted Motivations: New band from the USA, progressive, melodic, flying shredation, impressive vocalist, and the cd only costs 5 dollars, I'd suggest checking them out... they are AWESOME!

Dead Soul's Tribe: Soon to release their 3rd album, the solo band of Psychotic Waltz singer, Devon Graves, once known as Buddy Lackey is eerie, heavy, progressive, and dark as can be!

AWESOME band! i have their 2nd release, A Murder of Crows, easily one of 2003s BEST records.

Heavy, yet melancholic. Reminds me of the great European bands Anathema, Katatonia, Opeth, the Gathering, etc.

I own the second Dead Soul Tribe CD "A Murder of Crows" and it is pretty cool. They have a "Tool" vibe to them, but the guitar is better and the drums (though programmed which 99.9% of the time I can't stand) are cool and panned left to right and stuff. They are an interesting band.
