What are some of the bands with the most creative riffing in your opinion?

... are all bands whose riffing I consider unique and instantly recognisable.

You may be right, but they sound nothing like Slayer to me. They certainly own their sound, and it shows in their riffery in my opinion.

Production and vocals - the construction of both riffs and drum patterns is classic Slayer. Seriously, go back and listen to South of Heaven and then listen to Leviathan, even the basic pacing of the songs is almost identical.
