As I have mentioned before, I've got a pretty sick 120-130hz standing wave/bass buildup problem in my closet where my 1x12 Boogie cab is mic'd.

I found this on eBay:

$40 shipped for 4 of these bass traps. Would it be foolish/futile to purchase these? I can't imagine them NOT helping, but if it would make more sense to get something different, I'm all ears.

I've tried all ghetto methods (blankets, pillows, couch cushions, et al) to really no avail.

The closet dimensions 6' x 2'

I have the cabinet basically in the middle of the closet, sitting on a cinder block pointing upwards.

Treble leakage is not a problem at all - I have my Krank master volume set to about 4.5.

I wouldn't recommend foam for acoustic bass treatment - it is not very effective at absorbing low frequencies. Check out www.realtraps.com There is a lot of great acoustic information there that you will find beneficial and they produce great products.

I recently built bass traps for my control room out of OC703 rigid fiberglass and they work great - a much better alternative than foam! (and looks much more professional!)

Someone posted a link to these earlier this year... Matt Smith, I think?

Maybe a few of the 4" ones would help, placed across the corners. But that starts getting a pricey in a hurry.

If you're the DIY type, there are plenty of instructions online for building your own cylindrical traps. That would definitely be a more cost effective solution. Not all of the links on this page work, but there's enough info there if you dig around.

Thanks guys.

These seem to be the DIY nuggets of choice:

Those GIK would add up really fast. $50 a pop plus $28 shipping.

I'm not a poor, broke, cheap bastard - but I refuse to fork over my cash to a company like Auralex who probably has an even higher profit margin than Monster Cable.

Thanks for that geo link, black sugar - could be some sweet nuggets in there.

Short of diggin a fucking ginormous HOLE into the bottom of my dojo to park my cab down into, I guess I will need to try my hand at those DIY cylindrical traps first. It seems really weird to me that parking 2 of those things into each corner of my closet is going to make a hill of beans of difference, but it's worth trying I suppose.

Curse you standing waves... curse you to Celine Dion Island.
