Beer Snobs

the link on the drunkard site to that UK Absinthe store is ... well ... makes me want to order a bottle one day.

has anyone ever tried real absinthe?
there is a watered down version available in the US ... that fucked me up nice and proper last Haloween ... so I can just imagine the real deal.

Yeah, the occasionally funny but always lowest common denominator website.

How is it lowest common denominator? What articles are un-intelligent/not extremely well writen?

Well the article you posted for example, the hits on fruity and foreign beer are pretty much unfounded. Yes, people put fruit into beer because they are fruity, it has nothing to do with the fact that many fine alcohols use fruit to flavor a drink very successfully. Also slamming the skunkiness of "foreign" beer is always stupid. Yes good for you, you drank a stale Heineken and it taste like shit. Now ALL foreign beer must taste like shit, right?

I know, I took it too seriously, but I just don't find their articles very funny. I do like their pictures though, the ones in the Rosy the Riveter style.

You realize that many of the writers are "beer snobs" right? They're poking fun at themselves of course. I just don't understand how that article apeals to the lowest-common-denominator? Thats all.

Why do I always get in debates when I say I don't like this website? This isn't the first time this has happened.

Also its not at all an only comedy magazine, so not finding the articles funny isn't a big deal. Did anyone read the Absinthe account?

Nah, I've been stuck on these girlie flavored Crown Royals. Aint no shame here. That shit is good and makes you feel good.

I'm glad you found one you love, I'm not familiar with Other Half but I only know so many east coast breweries. I typically stick to west coast stouts/strong ales/porters and then Belgians, for the most part.

I was a hophead for many years, but everything turned into an IPA so I got really burned out on them. Earlier I wrote an anti-IPA post but deleted it and am now having a lunchbeer instead. HAPPY OKTOBERFEST

Yeah I get it. I'm a sucker for IPAs (especially of the more resinous, hoppy variety - West coast style is my favorite, not so much NEIPA) and don't see that ending anytime soon. But from time to time it's good to take a break and fall back on the trusted Belgian Trappist... Also, a good old German wheat beer is the tits after a long hard hike.

Had my first beer in 6 months yesterday. Twas a Blue Moon, had to ease into the shallow end of the pool. Been solely consuming hard alcohol such as tequila, since beer has been giving me horrific acidic problems. Basically a sensation where ye wish to burp, but are unable to do so. Only happens with beer.

Successfully survived the Blue Moon. This intel will give the greenlight to peruse a brewery once more in my life time. Just need to take it easy, and possibly avoid IPAs.

There's a local liquor store that has a hidden stash of Belgians in the very back left corner, you have to practically crawl down there to get to them. And I do.

A few weeks ago, I brought a bottle of Troubadour Obscura home and only then realized it said "best by October 2015." I of course drank it immediately.

Went back the next week and snagged another aged bottle. Damn fine stuff.
