Best All times James Murphy Solos

Personally, I don't think there's been a bad James Murphy solo. :D

I think the biggest stand outs for me are the Touching the Earth solos, and the solo in Testament's acoustic version of Return to Serenity off the "Live at the Filmore" record. The differences between James' style and Skolnick's are blatantly obvious on this track, and I think James just rips on this. :)

I wonder what James' says are his best personal moments, also Toshiro, i reccomend you listen to the Universal Culture Shock album!

One of my personal all-time favorite solos is the Time Enough solo i did following Petrucci on the Explorer's Club - Age Of Impact cd. i'm also very partial to alot of what i did on the new Foreign Objects CD, " Universal Culture Shock ". My guest solo on the new Firewind album also still makes me smile when i hear it.

James, for some reason I am more fond of your rhythm work :)

thanks, i appreciate that. this was a thread about my solos though so i decided to stick to that topic. thanks again for the nod to my rhythm playing.

I think the solo he did on

Cancer - Death Shall Rise and Disincarnate were unequaled by any other so called Death metal lead guitarists

I think the way the solo in True Believer builds and climaxes is amazing, and I'm partial to it (that being the song that converted me to metal). But I think overall Eyes of Wrath if my favorite solo (e.g. ever). The atypical guitar tone is very effective, and I like the slower melody over the gratuitous shredding that's often used for thrash solos. Also the whole outro of that song is well written, with the rhythm guitar and drums.

I love all of his solos of UCS, but his solos in Testaments Rapid Fire and Deaths Spiritual Healing are definitely outstanding. James is a genious!

Instead of "the best", I'll state my personal 3 favs (in no particular order)...

1. Beyond the Flesh - I'd heard James' stuff before, but this one made me listen
2. Legions (In Hiding) - Very expressive. One of the great all time leads, IMHO.
3. Since Forgotten - At one point, it sounds like his guitar is about to ignite!!!

Oh shit, I forgot the four-bar guest burner on Malevolent's "Coronation".

His last solo in Foreign Objects' 'Disengage the simulator', 3.47 - 4.05, thats the best shit I've heard in fucking years.
