best bass line or bass solo?

Any number of songs off Jaco Pastorius' solo albums
Send Me Your Money by Suicidal Tendencies (Rob Trujillo)
Kindergarten by Faith No More (Bill Gould)
Any number of songs by Rancid (Matt Freeman)
Any number of songs by Funkadelic and Parliament (Bootsy Collins)

For me it's "havona" by Jaco but i also really like the bass of Psychotic Waltz for exemple in "faded",quite simple but nice!I think sometimes the feeling is more important than the technique...

I can't stress this enough, Please listen to the entire album "Eat a Peach" by the Allman Brothers Band. And you will hear some of the best melodic bass work of our time. Berry Oakley, never got the appreciation he deserved. Just give this a fair shot, and I'm sure you'll hear what I'm saying.

"Higher Ground" -- RHCP's version

It may be a little obvious, but it doesn't get much better than Flea whomping the shit out of it.

Im partial to Felix Pappalardi's work (Mountain)
and Peter Cetera's work on the first two Chicago albums - CTA & C II

the older bands left more room for the bass to work

Any bass line made by John Paul Jones.

word up! JPJ has some really groovy shit when you actually listen to it. Hes more looked at as an all around great musician rather then a bass player, which is stupid because his bass lines are awesome.

Anyway, my favorite bass solo is classical thump from wooten.
