Best Evergrey Lyrics?

My favorite lyrics come from "Your Darkest Hour"

I would hold you when you're sleeping
I would guide you when you're drifting
I'd be the light you seek in your darkest hour

Oh I forgot...

From The Essence Of Conviction:
Undressed to nothing, held to the sky
Her smile is gone and she starts to cry
Desperately seeking her father's eyes
But he sees nothing
He's blind....

From The Encounter
*I hear them, they're coming
quickly trough the hallway
The door opens
helpless again...*
the will I had ain't strong enough
the stenght I seek ain't there
my world is dead, my future's broken
and it all stays the same!

Amazing

I think I'd go for Unforgivable Sin, especially

No holy water can save you now
And no prayers can cleanse the lust
He used, abuse and raped the trust
The innocence of a life is lost...

But I think that Madness Caught Another Victim also has very cool lyrics, especially the chorus.

BTW, does When The Walls Go Down count?

They have many lyrics that have hit home with me such as "To hope is to fear", "But to live in fear is not to live at all", "All I ever wished for was a vengeance on solitude" etc, etc but my favourite vocal delivery must be the track Different Worlds and the lines "My body's become my prison. My keepers are what you would call...fiction?"

In my Book Of Angst, I have a bit from "Watching The Skies":

I find myself not trusting anyone
and distrust leaves you lonely
the hiding from the fear
brings me closer to despair
feelings of doubt joins me
I fight to keep myself above the surface
I try but the waves I swim are just growing stronger
The light's getting distant
and I am drifting further

This book is full of stuff dating back to high school... Stabbing Westward, Tori Amos, Rush, King's X, Drain STH, Pink Floyd, Kevin Gilbert, Pain of Salvation, etc.

I have to say Different Worlds. This song always brings a tear to my eye. Best mix of emotions from the music and the lyrics...

All my pride has left me
My value as a human has been extinguished
My close ones' those who love
Disbelieve me won't believe me
So I got no-one to confide in
And what worse is
I'm beginning to accept this
My body's become my prison
My keepers are what you would call...
Fiction

"Recreation Day," "Visions," "The Essence of Conviction," and "A Touch of Blessing" are truly well written songs.

(Why yes, I do only own two albums by Evergrey...)

"my every morning is the beginning of a Recreation Day"

"Can't someone come and take my soul
And take my soul..."

"I've seen unknown lands
No map has ever charted
And I lived in the deserts
And the wastelands
And I have spoken with the demons
And the souls of the slaughtered"

"The will I had ain't strong enough
The strength I seek ain't there
And my world is dead
My future's broken
Cause it all stays the same

They're coming
They're coming... here"

"I am beginning to doubt me
If what I feel and see is real
It seems as if I exist in different worlds
There is one in darkness
One is loss of time
One of self-doubt and one of hurt"

happiness :)

I think mine would have to be from.....

To Hope is to Fear

Weakened by the truth of life
Suffering this endless pain
Mourning the birth of time

or from

Recreation Day

Devoured by guilt & cursed beyond control
My every morning is in every way
The beginning of a recreation day

Whoa! That's creepy those are my favorite, not to forget the one from "Your Darkest Hour", other than those

"To live in fear is not to live at all"-Closed Eyes

It took me a while to think of some because I think lyrically, Pain of Salvation and Evergrey are the best. Not to mention Adagio, In flames is pretty good too.

Friden can't write lyrics. That's a fact. He had to get Niklas Sundin to write them for Whoracle and Colony, even transcribe some for Clayman from Swedish (he did an ok job with the rest I think, but nevertheless...oh and "just think as I rape your mother" is just great) and now the latest lyrics...I don't understand a fucking thing about them. It could be that they're so poetic that I'm just too stupid to see the wonders of Friden's poetry, but I'm just guessing that they're really just terrible lyrics.

I thought I had posted lyrics in this thread already...well some of my favourites are probably (along with the vocal performance that comes with the lyrics obviously) in Madness Caught Another Victim, More Than Ever and A Touch Of Blessing [and When The Walls Go Down], in detail:

"When the last ship of hope have sailed
What are my options?
When the road that I'm walking ends
So what are my options?
When my words are all that remains"

"I've tried too many times to leave you
Just as many times as I've cried to see you
Every road has its end and my ends here
And so does my faith"

"Drowning in betrayal's river
The freezing cold will make you shiver
Join the world of greater learning
Crown me king and be my servants"

By the way the grammar mistake that's in the first set of lyrics ["When the last ship of hope have sailed"] is a little annoying. I've noticed that Swedish bands tend to have a little bit of trouble with verbs, I remeber some other bands having lots of them, Pain Of Salvation had one...which is obviously not a big deal, but if you can, why not be perfect. Evergrey should get someone to proof-read (sp?) their lyrics before release...preferrably not an American. :p

I'm picky.

I'm picky.

I've only heard about 20 songs by them so I don't know all the ones you've mentioned. I've just gotten into them almost a month ago and have Clayman on order. I'm just saying the lyrics I've heard and can make out are good.
