Mine personally right now would have to be Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil. Great new album and they were amazing when I saw them saturday night with Moonspell. I would have to say right after her would be Anneke from The Gathering.

Scabbia is pretty fucking amazing but the girl from Lullacry comes close and almost beats her imho. On a side note Gossow is about the best growls in a female ive heard and she hints that there could be clean voice in the next cd? lest hope so.

It was easier to say before, but I did a radio special on women in metal a month or so ago and dug up so many that were good, and now it's hard to decide.

I think Skin from Skunk Anansie is awesome though too.

I don't know if shes been taking lessons, but Shirleys' voice gets better with every cd.

What comes to Tarja Turunen and Nightwish, I think the whole band lacks all emotion. I can't stand it in a band. If someone doesn't know, all of them were in the same school of music (the most appreciated one in Finland). Tarja has never even listened to metal music. They are a commercial band. I doubt Nightwish would even exist if it wasn't so trendy to listen to metal in Finland these days...

I guess I wouldn't be so pissed off if they hadn't raped Gary Moore's Over The Hills And Far Away...
