no i'm not saying it "sucks" because i've never actually had jack personally so i wouldn't know; my guess is that it's very bland tastewise (like other mass-produced crap i.e. budweiser, mcdonalds, etc.) but easy to get drunk on

i'm saying that you won't find one whisky snob anywhere in the world who thinks jd is a quality concoction

but most whisk[e]y snobs are terrible people so who the hell cares
 It's fuckign smoooth, and tastes gooooood, but I'm always looking for better shit.

:kickass:

dude. JD sucks ass.

Try some Maker's Mark or Jim Beam Black or something. Wild Turkey is pretty great too.

I hope NAD doesn't post in here or else he'll tear my post down.

hrm.. well it sucks that I can' go and buy my booze by myself yet. I'm definitely writing this shit down.

I can't stand whiskey anymore because of an old party... :erk:

Depends what kind of whisky we are talking about. There are lots of different kinds. For a good bourbon, you cant beat Old Rip Van Winkle, then the Woodford Reserve, Blandtons, etc...

If you're talking about Single Malts, whoa baby. Without spending over $100 for a bottle, Lagavulin 16 is fucking GRANDE and a peat monster. Or a good Macallan 12 year old which is aged in Sherry casks, so it has big sherry notes, decent peat, some toffee-notes and just a tremendous nose imo. When it comes to Single Malt, we are talking of the creme la creme and the sky is the limit.

JD is whisky, Maker's Mark and Jim Beam are bourbons.

Whisky, because it's a blended drink, isn't highly though of among people into such things. If you're interested in a top shelf whisky, you need to make the switch to bourbon. Among bourbons Woodford Reserve and Basil Haydens are among the best. Either can be had for between $25 and $35 a bottle.

You know whats weird/anoying, I used to do it/sometimes still do it myself. When somone really definitly likes the taste of something, or enjoys something, that is supposed to be 'bad', ie: a cheap cigar, cheap beer, cheap whisky, and people just sit there and tell them how much they shouldn't enjoy it, how they should drink something else, how it tastes bad, etc. when the person is TELLING THEM IN PERSON 'I REALLY ENJOY THIS TASTY TREAT'. Some people enjoy Jack Daniels, or Corona and I don't see what the fuck's the big deal or why people try so hard to convince these people that they do not in fact like JD or Corona and instead like what everyone else decided was the 'good stuff'.

TULLY, you just REALLY do not get it. Seriously. If you enjoy it, GREAT. But whats so bad about broadening your horizons and tryong something more revered either? Why would you want to be ignorant your entire life?

Same diference with music, food, anything.

Nothing wrong with broadening my horizons. I drink the 'good stuff' myself, Magic Hat at least but also Andescher, Arogant Bastard (along with other Stone brews), Thomas Hooker, Storm King, Yulesmith when I visit my friend at Union because they have an ill shop, Sam Smith's Imperial Stout, Avenitus, many others. For Whisky/Wiskey I like Scotch, but I don't really drink much uper-class stuff. I like Speyside or Islay single malts.

I just don't really care what other people enjoy anymore, ie: I don't feel just because I drink stuff considered 'good' it means that what other people drink stuff that is automatically 'bad'.
I used to try and 'open other peoples minds' and was upset when they said they just enjoyed what they enjoyed. I'm saying just let people enjoy what they enjoy, whether it be 'bad' or 'good'.

Of course ignorance is a whole different thing, I'm talking about people who are open minded and will try new things, but still decide they enjoy what the enjoyed originally.

There just isn't anything to 'get', as usual. People like different things. People like you or I, or others into the 'underground' culture are into digging for the rare and best. Other people enjoy more available things. Now of course some of these people are just waiting to learn about the 'underground' part of things and by all means you or I should help them out with finding the stuff we love so much, but someone who is obviously not going to budge in their taste but clearly does truly enjoy what they say they enjoy, doesn't bother me (though there was a time when it pissed me the fuck off).

Mind you this will probably all change once again, if I run into a completely ignorant fuck.

It's like DJing a party. You have to know who you are playing to and cater to that. If the people are into Pop music I'm going to dig for the absolute best Pop music I can find to play for them, I'm not going to play Black Metal. While I play the best Pop music I can play I'll play some underground tracks here and there that I feel the crowd will like and see how they react, maybe introducing some people to things they may not have known they like. Same with beer, or whisky, or food, or anything. You have to cater to peoples tastes, not just assume that they will love what is 'best' just because fans or conesiurs say it is best.

In the end it's about giving people what they didn't know they wanted, not giving them what you want.

DISCLAIMER: This whole post does not apply to Nu-Metal.

"whisky" does not imply "blended." there is blended whisky and single malt whisky, just like there's blended whiskey and single malt whiskey
Thanks Capt. Obvious.

"Whisky", as it relates to Jack Daniels (the subject of this thread), implies a blended whisky. And if someone is a fan of Jack (blended whisky) and wants to step up in class, the most likely step for them, based on tasting characteristics, is a bourbon (straight whisky) not a single malt.
