Best Guitar Pro archive?

It's still possible to download Guitar Pro files from ultimate-metal.com. Just scroll down the page a bit.
Me thinks it's only the 'Tab Pro' that costs money. Tab Pro looks like an "in-browser stripped down version" of Guitar Pro.

Yeah, I think you may have to sign up, but you can still get gp tabs for free.
I use 911 tabs mainly, it's the quickest way.
If you can't find it on 911 then try out http://metaltabs.com/ or riversofgore.com, a lot of the stuff on both of those sights is not on 911.

It doesn't require membership. It costs nothing to download their tabs, pro tabs, power tabs, etc. The "membership" is to use their own tabbing service and trainer, etcs. It doesn't affect their database. Just scroll down a bit and you get the trusty old download link.

I still get all/most of my gp tabs mainly from ultimate-guitar. but if not, then 911 as my second

Thanks. I didn't look closely enough, UG is still free. They just like wasting your time loading their web player.

Well, every forum has its issues. ultimatemetal.com was at risk of losing its advertisement income due to profanity, nudity, etc. No income = no website.

UG's advertisement wasn't bringing in enough money to sustain the heavy traffic that website endures. Their solution: offering extra services for a low monthly fee.

I agree that having to scroll down, and loading that web player is annoying, but the concept of extra features for a monthly fee to keep the website running is a pretty good strategy imo.

That said, their popup against adblockers is pissing me off!

Yep, this.

I am a mod there in the Guitar Gear & Accessories and Recording forums - Our tabs are definitely still free ;)

If you're having issues with the web player loading, just do what I do - Download a flash blocker for Chrome/Firefox, that lets you click the flash item to open it up. Otherwise, if you don't click it, the flash item doesn't load; thus the page loads much faster.
