So, what's the best Metal album of all time?

This would fit most likely in the "Classic Old School" category, but other more current albums could be put in it as well too.

Here's my choices:
AC/DC-Highway To Hell :)
AC/DC-Back In Black :)
Metallica-Ride The Lighting (Too bad they suck now)
KISS-Destroyer

Yeah, it's a tie, but all are masterpieces in my own opinion. Each song kicks ass on all of the albums. So, what are everyne else's picks?:D

Best album of all time ? That's a hard one..
It's hard to say.. Though, I have some choices :

Edguy - Theater of Salvation (power)
Manowar - Fighting the World (traditional heavy)
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark (traditional heavy)
Helloween - Master of the Rings (power)
Rhapsody - Symphony of enchanted Lands (hollywood metal, heh)
Dream Theater - Images and Words (prog)

These are all great albums..:) I can't pick out the best Metal album of all time..there are too many, hehe..

the best album of all ? hum...very very hard to reply but I'll say:

Rhapsody - Symphony of enchanted lands ( and all the Rhapsody and Luca's albums )
Heavenly - Sign of the winner and Coming from the sky....may be the next albums
Angra - Angels cry
:headbang:

One of these...couldn't possibly pick just one.

Dream Theater - Images and Words
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys 2
Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime

And some that come very close...
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Other Side
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Savatage - Gutter Ballet
WASP - The Crimson Idol
Lake of Tears - Forever Autumn
Nightwish - Oceanborn
Sentenced - Down
Royal Hunt - Fear
Ayreon - The Dream Sequencer

Damn tricky question

Kmak and WW...I'm with you on Dream Theater's "Images and Words"

On the Maiden front....Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and 7th son are all candidates.

Possibly Black Sabbath "Mob Rules" or "Heaven and Hell"

Megadeth - Rust in Peace

Labyrinth - Return to Heaven Denied

Edguy - Mandrake (I think this album just gets better!)

Probably some others that I can't quite recall too..like

Judas Priest - Painkiller and Screaming for Vengeance

Yeah way too difficult to answer - perhaps I would think about it like this:

Best album from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. So I would come up with three in total.

I still can't answer it though. I plead the fifth. :)

Back In Black and Painkiller would certainly be my candidates.

But my reliable stock answer has always been Iron Maiden's The Number Of The Beast. To me it is almost the perfect Metal album, the chorus of Invaders and Gangland just stopping it from attaining total perfection. It's not like Gangland is a bad song, but against all the other songs on the album it falls a bit short. At the end of the day, though, this is the album I'd have blasted off into space for the rest of the universe to enjoy!

Ohhhhh.....this is difficult!!

I think for me it would have to be Painkiller as far as traditional metal is concerned. Powerslave would be a close second!

As far as power metal goes......Imaginations followed by Something Wicked......!

originally posted by Jay KeeleyBest album from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. So I would come up with three in total.

Good Idea but I'll expand on it slightly.

I'll also probably think of many more after I post this

70s (a bit before my time but nevertheless)
Rainbow - Rising
Judas Priest - Killing Machine
Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstacy

80s (Wahooo!)
Stormwitch - Beauty And The Beast
Queensryche - Rage For Order
Helloween - Keepers and Jericho

90s (Wahoo!)

Gamma Ray - Land Of The Free
Iced Earth - Stormrider
Blind Guardian - Imaginations

00s (Wahoooo!)

Primal Fear - Nuclear Fire
Dark Avenger - Dark Avenger
Freedom Call - Crystal Empire

70's:
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Something by Rainbow or Deep Purple - Ritchie Blackmore is too important to ignore

80's: (has to be year by year)
1980: AC/DC - Back in Black
1981: Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman
1982: Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
1983: Metallica - Kill 'em All OR Dio - Holy Diver
1984: Metallica - Ride the Lightning OR Iron Maiden - Powerslave
1985: ???
1986: Metallica - Master of Puppets or Slayer - Reign in Blood
1987: Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
1988: Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys pt 2 OR Metallica - And Justice for All
1989: Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
1990: Megadeth - Rust in Peace

90's:
Avantasia, Edguy, Kreator, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Angra....

THIS THREAD IS FUTILE!!!

PLEASE REMOVE THIS THREAD (because I've pulled all me hair out!). :loco:

OK I'll settle with ONE ALBUM:

BRUCE DICKINSON - CHEMICAL WEDDING

And ONE FOLLOW UP:

MEGADETH - RUST IN PEACE

That's it. Goodnight....zzzzz.o_O

For the life of me, I couldn't find anything astounding that was released in 1985. Anyone got any ideas? I'm sure there was an abundant amount....

Errm...Live After Death by Iron Maiden? :)

Being the fool that I am, I keep a list of all me albums in chronological order (hey, it can be interesting to browse occasionally! :p :D), and found to my surprise I only have three albums from this year. So maybe you're onto something JK...
