(Bush struggles to interrupt) "The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule! Our law enforcement needs this vital legislation to protect our citizens you need to renew the Patriot Act!"

That last bit of course was also followed by massive applause, but I'm psyched you noticed that too, Alex.

it took only about 24 hrs for someone to put together a short remix of Howard Dean's Iowa speech, where he was going ballistic and let loose a bloodcurdling shriek, which I think was supposed to be a battle cry:

They applaud at the end of every policy point in the SOTU, basically; the applause that broke into the middle of his statement was, I think, significant. (but yes, their "hair triggers" for applause certainly drew some GOP into that anti-Patriot Act applause who wouldn't have clapped if they thought about it).

That rules, especially given the irony that the Senate approved the act almost unanimously...which wouldn't have happened if its authors had provided for debate and distributed the final version for reading before its passage...
