Best solutions/suggestions to get high quality stereo AD/DA and stereo preamp?

Time to upgrade from m-audio profire 2626 to something significantly better.

I'm mixing totally ITB and don't need lots of channels for conversion and only 1-2 preamps for random overdubs maybe. No need for insert points also.
Currently working with WIN7/PC but OSX is an option also (for metric halo etc..?)

Budget somewhere around 2000-3000$ for this (is this enough to get that much better results after profire?).

Would prefer interface solution but getting conversions, clocks and preamps etc. individually is also not totally out of question. Somehow just feels bit complicated..

You literally cannot go wrong with MH gear. Ever. If you're willing to switch OS that'd be one of the better options by far.

If not, most shit by Black Lion Audio will do a fucking good job. They offer a mod package for your 2626, so maybe take a look at that. Have only ever heard great things about it.

Api a2d is very nice for 2 preamps with Ad conversion. And then you have money for a second hand RME or such. Would be a big improvement for you.

API A2D or Neve 1073 DPD (used). Done.

Thanks. So basically you'd recommend upgrading the preamp side/AD big time and not worrying so much about the DA side? Any users with experiences from BLA stuff/mods?
