He founded Carcass and was a member of Napalm Death in their early days. Obviously the dude is pretty important to death metal, and one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Today he plays in a blues band and really has nothing to do with metal, but his legacy in the genre is quite strong. Discuss. :Spin:

Yeah, he's an excellent guitarist. Of his death-stuff I only have Heartwork (planning to get more) and that absolutely rocks. His new band, Firebird, is also quite good. I have one album and it really captures the energy of the classic hard rock bands - again, excellent guitar work. How is No.3?
However, Bill Steers clean singing is... awkward :D

No. 3 is good, it is much better than the first one, and I have yet to hear Deluxe.

Have you heard his grunt/growl vocals on early Carcass material? Now that is different! :D

What's this, we got a bunch of women in this forum now!? BOW DOWN TO THE STEER!!! :worship:
uhh... I had a conversation will Steer a long time ago while Carcass was on a grindcrusher tour. He was a really nice guy. How's that? :loco: Of course he rules in Carcass. I only have the first Firebird album. I like it, but it's not really something I'd listen to much.

Haven't heard Firebird, but Carcass be da shit. I especially liked the duel vocals on Necroticism, and I wish Steer had used his guttural growl on Heartwork.

Carcass is sick! Even before you get to the CD, the front covers are sickening!

Hey I want to say something without this turning into pages of argument, but you know how everyone is saying that Arch Enemy dumbed down their music for AoR? Well, I've been listening to shit loads of Heartwork and I wouldn't exactly say that was much more complex. The riff in the title track is probably as technical it gets. And what a glorious riff it is...

Shitloads of Heartwork is good for you my brother, you are becoming well learned in the ways of Carcass.

I'll let others debate on your point, since I've never made the dumbing down argument myself. :D

The riff in the title track? Which one? The title track is one of the simplest songs on the album. Try 'Blind Bleeding the Blind' at around 20 seconds for technicality.

I guess I was referring to the intro segment - the palm muted fast runs up and down the scale. To be honest, I never tried to figure it out so it might be easier than it sounds, a bit like "Take No Prisoners" on RIP or something. 'The Deceptive Riff'.
