Billy Powell, Lynyrd Skynyrd Keyboardist, dead at 56

Folks;

Last night, the man whose keyboard solo for "Freebird" was one of the defining moments in rock history, passed away last night. Billy Powell, 56, contacted 911 himself. Despite all efforts to revive him, he was declared dead at 0120 hrs last night. I heard a segment about this on the radio this morning. If I understood it correctly, they said he had missed an appointment with a cardiologist recently. This is sad news indeed.

I'd have to check and see if that was one of the LPs I moved to Cheeseland with. I' don't think it was, but I do know my LPs of this were pretty worn out...

I hated to hear that. Billy was a great musician and seemed like a cool guy from what I've seen in his interviews. Whether you like 'em or not Lynyrd Skynyrd has had an influence on lots of musical styles from metal, rock and country. I love lots of their classics but I also like some of the newer stuff as well. Red, White & Blue and Preacher Man just to name a few. I agree that One From The Road is a classic. Also check out Free Bird-The Movie. As far as the name I hope they keep it. I think Billy would've wanted the band to carry on.
