I know it's probably an acquired taste, but I can remember playing the hell out of this song on my cassette player....... I may be alone here, but I still love it :)

Always reminds me of those laser light shows they used to do in planetariums. Good stuff.

This is exactly where I remember this excellent song from. It was featured in a planet-arium show called "LaserDrive" which came to Atlanta's Fernbank Planetarium in the 80s, along with Pink Floyd's "Speak To Me/Breathe," Rush's "The Spirit of Radio" and a few other excellent songs.

That was a religious experience for me, and there's no question it helped shape my musical tastes toward progressive hard rock.

I have this Billy Thorpe album on CD and on vinyl. The first side is really good (helped immensely by THIS song.) Side Two is dreadful. :)

I remember it as well, cool song! It was strange I only recently learned of his passing in 2007, just never heard anything about it...

One of the bigger country artists performed "Children of the Sun" on tour within the last few years. (!)
My friend Tim was working local crew and when the intro came on, the crew backstage were saying "Waitaminute. That sounds like-- Holy crap, it is 'Children of the Sun'!"
And they all raced toward the stage to watch. :headbang:

I love Children of the Sun. I have since I first heard it. And I'll still crank it up if it comes on the radio. Never had the vinyl though, so can't comment on the rest of his material.

As for Red Rider, I was BIG into them when Lunatic Fringe came out. Still have the vinyl, still enjoy the band. Saw them live in Atlanta in '81 (on the GT campus, in what USED TO BE the basketball arena. Not sure what is there now.) opening up for Jefferson Starship on the Modern Times Tour. Grace was still in the band, and she ROCKED, as did the whole show. Still a top ten concert memory for me.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Love it!!!!!! Also, another favorite of mine from that time frame was a song called "Why Me?" from Tony Carey (I think that's who it was.)

Yeah, don't feel like you have to rush out and get the vinyl for side two. Side 1 is the concept; Side 2 is.......ummmm.............pass the beer-nuts.

He did at least one other pretty decent album, though: East of Eden's Gate. And music for TV shows, too, including War of the Worlds.

Love that song....another one of those awesome rock-radio chestnuts that I crank up whenever I hear it.

Alexander Memorial Coliseum, probably. The WREK-FM studio, from which dcowboys311 and I pummel the masses with metal musicks on WREKage, used to be located in the same building. AFAIK it is still used as the GT basketball venue. (We used to sneak into the back of the coliseum through the basement, for absolutely no good reason whatsoever except that the basement was pretty nifty.)

We've got that on CD because it's such a great song. I've also got two Red Ryder CDs. The difference is that the Red Ryder CDs are good, while the Billy Thorpe song is good.

Fixed for emphasis.

Tony Carey or Planet P or Planet P Project. GREAT song. I have some sort of weird extended remix of it here somewhere, too. :)
