This has, "potentially awesome," written all over it. Glenn Hughes (who is Godlike), Jason Bonham (who really is quite good), Joe Bonamassa (who is awesome)...etc. Goodness, this could be killer. Glad too, that Glenn H. will be involved in something most likely a little more heavy rock than funk again. I don't mind his funk stuff....but it's hard to beat Soul Mover, and the last Iommi/Hughes record. Forget Chickenfoot...this could be a real supergroup. Oh, and I like Kevin Shirley. He's the man that brought The Song Remains the Same back to life (if you haven't revisited that, I would...it's better now), and did an excellent job on the 'other' Zep DVD as well. I know some don't like the new Maiden stuff here, but I personally like what he's done with their sound.

Producer Says BLACK COUNTRY Debut Is 'Promising To Be Phenomenal' - Jan. 14, 2010 Drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) has joined forces with legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), keyboardist Derek Sherinian (ALICE COOPER, DREAM THEATER, KISS, BILLY IDOL) and guitarist Joe Bonamassa in a brand new project tentatively dubbed BLACK COUNTRY. The group is currently recording its debut album with producer Kevin Shirley (LED ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY, IRON MAIDEN, DREAM THEATER) for a tentative late 2010 release.

Commented Shirley: "So there it is folks — the cat is out the bag! This is BLACK COUNTRY.

"I am producing the debut album and we already have six tracks cut.

"We're going to do the next session in March when I'm through with my current project, and I hope to finish in early April.

"The band is Jason Bonham on drums, Derek Sherinian on keyboards, Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals and Joe Bonamassa on guitar and vocals. The songs are all original and what a lineup! They are all the very best players in the world, for my money!

"Jason Bonham is a totally unique drummer and a supreme, yet oh-so-tasty powerhouse. Derek Sherinian is super-versatile, and is playing mostly overdriven Hammond organ in this ensemble and is the color on the palette. Glenn Hughes plays bass and sings with a range VERY, VERY few can even get close to, and Joe Bonamassa, perhaps the best blues guitarist around, plays hard riffing guitar as well as adding his signature vocals alongside Glenn.

"You'll just have to wait — we're planning to get this out late summer, and it's promising to be phenomenal!"

I nearly fell out my seat when I learned about this!!!!

Bonamassa & Hughes together!?!?!??! The stars have surely aligned!

Add to that the pedigree of Bonham and Derek Sherinian on keys....wow, just wow! I'm speechless!!!!

Hughes remains the single most under-rated musical master of the modern day. He should be a house-hold name and known to all & sundry. Alas, that will not likely ever come to fruition but perhaps this project will finally expand his audience.

Yes, Glenn should be a household name...but what really has me excited about this is Hughes can REALLY sing, and Joe writes cool stuff...neither of them is overspoiled by success...so this might well be a cool, "for the love of music," project. On paper it's the supergoup of the decade. Hope it plays out that way. Hope there's a tour too....

This will probably not sell as much as Crooked Vultures but the music and especially the vocals will undoubtedly be of a higher quality. Just don't funk it up and it will be perfect.
