black dahlia murder live guitar mics

hi!

yesterday i've seen the black dahlia murder live in hannover/germany. i recognized that they used AT AE 2500 on the guitars. which afaik is a dual capsule bass drum mic. one dynamic and one condenser capsule 100% phase correct.

anyone of you tried this mic on guitars live/studio before? how did that worked out? for TBDM it worked great.

btw, rest of the guitar gear was peavey 6505, tubescreamer and mesa cab. they were pretty quiet on stage.

I know a dude who swears by them live. You get to reap the benefits of both types of mics, but only have to have one mic onstage (though you still use two channels on a mixer).

Our (Before the Dawn) FOH guy has used those for our guitars for a while now. He seems to like them a lot.
But I remember him complaining about how picky those mics are when it comes to placement.
Just something to keep in mind when playing on a smaller stage.

I think bands don't have preferences live.....Often it depends by the backline

Yeah woody their sound guy uses em. Many many sound guys have been using these for heavy guitars. Namely big mick from metallica recently. Seems to be workin for a lot of dudes. Nothin i'd ever turn to in the studio though...

i've just seen that god forbid uses them live for both kickdrums and for both guitars too. i'll check the sound and routing next weekend i guess

btw, down too. for kick and guitars, bass is a dual at250 there's gotta be something going on with that mic

the Majesty dvd kicks ass! I noticed that they now use the 6505s now....thought they were all about the Rectos....weird.
