Black Gives Way To Blue

Gonna try to pick that up tomorrow. I've heard a few songs online & it sounds really solid.

its a jerry cantrell solo album dressed up to be an AIC album. its good though. cantrell doesn't write bad tunes really

How is it not AIC? It's Cantrell and the Drummer, and If I'm not mistaken the bassist also?

One of my albums of 2009

mike inez is on bass but he was not the original AIC bass player.

anyways if keith richards, bill wyman, ron wood and charlie watts make an album without mick jagger is that a rolling stones album? has everyone in the stones but the lead singer. keith always writes tunes and sang lead sometimes and harmony/background vocals

Yes...A lead singer is replaceable to me if 80% of the band is still in.

wow that is just dumb. the only time it works is when a band is either not very well known like in ac/dc's case in america they were just making waves and becoming popular or you do what van halen did and replace them with a well known person. everyone in a band making an album minus the lead singer doesn't constitute it being the same band.

on top of that saw AIC perform on jimmy kimmel last night. sounded good but that duvall guy is a horrid frontman for that band. did not fit at all. look is all wrong. he was smiling, clapping hands, doing that lenny kravitz head bob jam thing, pointing to people in the crowd, it looked like a black jon bon jovi fronting a grunge band to me. totally out of place

Lots of examples of established bands replacing their lead singers & still producing quality albums: Purple, Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Helloween, Fates Warning, Pink Floyd, etc, etc

Exactly, great examples. BTW Matt, no need for calling names, either you agree or disagree but keep it down.

i didn't call them dumb, i said that idea is dumb. the idea that a band can replace a singer and still be the same. unless you are talking about me calling duvall a black jon bon jovi. other than sabbath like i said in my first post most of those replaced their singers before they got hugely popular. you saw what happened to purple, sabbath, maiden and priest after they tried to swith singers later in their career. the fans complained and the albums were slammed even though some of them, motley crues self titled for example, rank as the artists better releases

Purple never actually had a trouble: Gillan was better than Evans, and Coverdale did great two albums (actually CTTB suffered because Blackmore left IMO), even the album with Turner wasn't that bad. As for Sabbath I prefer Dio era anytime, and Martin era was a great one too (except for the dreadful "Forbidden"). Priest and Maiden indeed made bad choices but their career wasn't shining exactly at the time: Priest was coming after a long hiatus and Tipton composition affected Owens performance IMO, as for Maiden they already had lost steam by the time of NPOTD and Dickinson was still in it so Blaze just jumped in an already weakened wagon, and even after Dickinson return the band has been weak compared to the 80's.

I think we should take this conversation into the thread opened by Vicious Robbie.
