Blackmore's Night

perfect strangers started me on blackmore, then i dug deeper and found the early seventies dp and rainbow. his tone is one of a kind- and i always loved the way bruce's vocal stylings resembled gillan's (janick played with him in eighty one-small world huh)
a couple years ago i discovered blackmore's recent solo stuff and tripped! no electric guitar riffs? :( i didn't care for it, but her voice is beautiful :) maybe i'll give it another listen

I last saw DP on the perfect strangers tour back in the mid 80s and I was blown away at how good Gillan could scream. He could hit the high notes hard, loud, and clean. I missed DP passing through town a few weeks ago (anyone go?). I haven't heard Bruce scream high notes clean for years. When he does it sounds raspy... thrashed. Don't get me wrong, I still like Bruce as a singer, but now he sometimes kinda ducks the high notes cuz if he doesn't it's just a thrash sound :guh: :zombie: o_O I don't know if Gillan's voice is still holding out. I've always been amazed at how well Rob Halfords voice has held up.

have you heard Bruce do Perfect Strangers with Dream Theater??? I have that. They also did The Trooper (and Bruno screwed up the lyrics...)
Bruno screams just like Gillan :D
yeah, i found those! then lost em while cleaning my harddrive. pretty decent live recording if i remember right. that would've been kewl to have seen in person....and while i'm dreaming...i'd like to hear ian do be quick or be dead with dp- 'the thief in your head' \m/ that would rock with a b3

He doesn't really need to for the performance... besides, if he did, he would have blown out his voice permanently during the Beast on the Road tour...
His voice has totally evolved over the years. I prefer Bruce's post Maiden solo work to anything maiden has done... (yeah... probably a sacrilege around these parts)
Get thee to Into The Black Hole or ANY of Bruce's post Maiden work... I have plenty of bootlegs...
I think Bruce sounds better now than he did before... EVER! :Smug:

I think Bruce is a fantastic singer. For the high notes, tho, Bruce has to continually practice in order to do 'em. Clearly he doesn't practice that sort of thing and Halford does. On the other hand, singing that high is a trademark of sorts for Halford. Age has nothing to do with hitting the high notes. Its all a matter of whether you continually belt it out that high on a regular basis. Besides, does Bruce really need to continually hit high notes? For me, I just want a singer to draw me into their music, high notes or not.
