Blizzard Of Ozzy

If it's the same singer as before, his name Is Mack and he's an old friend. Ironically enough, hes in the mortgage business too, haha. Good singer and has that same Ozzy kinda tone...

This cover band or "tribute" as those who think they are not as sad as the average cover band would call themselves has to end. Somehow it needs to stop. Saturday opening for Doro was an atrocious Maiden "tribute" band. How bad does this have to get?

Well since nobody shows to see her, they need a tribute band that probably has bigger pull than local metal bands ;)

And why not have cover bands playing good music, instead of bands who -are- cover bands just hiding it behind calling songs new names and writing new words (i.e. offering up nothing new).

No I won't go to the Atlanta Symphony! They are just a cover band!

(I don't go to cover bands because usually they are for terrible bands, and I think its a bit ridiculous to be a cover band for a band that is still around).

I really don't see anything wrong with cover bands. If people are willing to pay a couple of bucks to see them play, why not? You don't have to go.

I once (something like 12 years ago) saw a Rush cover band in Chicago who were freaking amazing. They play Xanadu live and did a damn good job. I think they were called "Animation". Pretty sure they're still around.

Animation are awesome. They come out of their bat caves every once in a while but very rarely do shows around here anymore. The first time I saw them there was this cover band opening for them and I couldn't believe how amaizing that band was but I had never heard of them. Later on Animation came on stage and it was the same guys. Figures.

I seriously doubt that the cover band brought in people. I'm sure by the judging of who had people in front of the stage was no indication.

Still I rather see a band attempting to write songs no matter how band they maybe then a cover band.

This came up in another thread, too. There are plenty of examples of people doing both, where someone in an "original" band also plays in a cover band since the cover band is actually the one that helps pull in the money to support the original band. Wouldn't it be great if the original band got more direct support? Sure. But that's not how it works out all the time.

Oh I realize how it works. There are guys on the label in cover bands. Drummer of one is keyboardist in one of the countries biggest Journey cover bands, still I can't accept it.
I know these things make money I just will never get how it gets the popularity and support that it does. And why everyone thinks they can do it. Most "tibute" bands I have witnessed are god awful, well the Thin Lizzy one was cool.

I don't care for cover/tribute bands personally, but hey if that's your thing, do it. No sense in getting all angry and shit.

Dude I have spent my youth in so many punk and college clubs that that does not bother me at all, granted it is pretty terrible. Still I'd rather see something that bad than a cover band.
To clear things up a bit I don't mind cover songs but I dislike cover bands. And when they call themselves "tributes" well that just seems to make it that much sad because now it seems they are attepting to make it sound better than what it simply is.
I just think it is sad that original music doesn't work. When I started going out to clubs to see bands about 17 years ago I did not see any around figured they only existed in raod houses and weddings. Now it seems there is one on every corner a "tribute" to every band one could think of. Really does Godsmack need a tribute band?
