I know this is a heavy metal forum, but we all need to record an acoustic at some point, right? I would like to record an acoustic guitar with a stereo image on each recording, normally 2 guitars playing slightly different parts and occupying different areas of the stereo field (one shifted left, other shifted right).

The other variable in this is that my room is not an acoustically superior space, there are some reflections which I just have to deal with.

I'm down to two options at the moment:

Blumlein: Buy a pair of these and get on with it: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may11/articles/mxl-r144.htm

X-Y: Buy one of these:

Which should I go?

Very interested in your experience and opinion!

Another vote for a pair of Oktava MK012s, they're excellent mics and great for acoustics. Use an XY pattern if your room isn't great, Blumlein will pick up more of the room.
