Well, this thread was inspired by some mini-discussion I had with hyena (hey there pretty  ) some time ago, I still don't know why on earth would you support Bush and USA's foreign politics, hope you can clarify that to me in this thread, anyway, the thread can be used to discuss your political opinions, if you have any, that is.

i don't see discussion with someone who would not hesitate to mock the efforts of individuals who actually might be *dying* in some rock desert in order to cover your own sorry ass. of course thanks to the almighty heavens and to the system you so brilliantly deride there is freedom of speech

 freedom of speech  so much for banning broadcastings of AL Qaeda with the lame excuse that they may contain coded messages to their followers, do I have to post more examples of freedom of speech?

Individuals dying on some rock? you might be refering to the poverty stricken afghan families that were bombed a while ago just so the USA could make another stupid and expensive display of it's power, and have a new "bad guy" to use as an excuse for uncalled militaristic and economic interventions to other countries and a scapegoat for USA's own "state terrorism" now that communism is no longer a "threat".

Thanatos (I still love you carissima ;) )

Couldn't you have posted this in the Opeth off-topic/chat section where all the other crap like this is too? ;)

I don't think ot would hurt the forum to have a politics thread, as it would be different from the Opeth forum, because the people here is different.

Well, all that crap only leads to fighting and nothing is solved, also the politics crap is why I stay away from the Opeth board all together.

So in other word, I think it will hurt the board.

I've never seen a real fight in this forum, and I don't see why it should happen now, it would just be a friendly discussion, if I know the regulars of this board well.

I have two things to say here...

1) I don't know enough of the facts to debate except for...

2) Bush's policy is probably better than mine.
My policies include:

Bombing the cack out of all countries with hard to pronounce names, Mocking everything and everyone because I've got nothing better to do, Having all politicians killed and A dead stranger shortens queues.

1) i'm (finally!) drunk therefore i won't post my opinion, lest i say things i don't want to :) will do tomorrow if exams don't kill me before, and will do soon anyway.

2) i love the idea of a politics thread but i don't see why it should hint at bombing me

3) wanderingblade, between my third and fourth pint i have been thinking of you, and for some reason i devised that your real name has to be kevin. am i correct?

4) thanatos, i really appreciate the fact that you ask for explanations instead of merely saying i am wrong.

5) rahvin, i want to hear your opinion, although i already might know it. well, on second thought, that's why i want to hear it. :) btw, thanks for the "forerun" token, i had no credit on my mobile and therefore could not tell you anything. i'm changing it straight away.

6) my dad tonight held some sort of speech about entitlements and social mobility that totally turned my universe upside bu. maybe it's also because i am studying so many papers about inequality and economic growth these days, but he sort of managed to convince me that worthy people can pick up stimuli regardless of their background if they are willing to. for someone who's totally legacy-obsessed like me, thinking that won't do - i cannot really word the array of philosophical problems facing me if i were to accept *deeply* a concept such as, well, "equal rights". i'm flabbergasted. i had the feeling that a certain disdain for ruling class heritage was building up in me, but i never can gauge the point when impressions become reasoning. will i rethink the whole universe up? oh almighty bu.

hyena (sleepy bubu)

my opinions, ok.
i think the reasons for thanatos to criticize hyena's tentative censorship over misanthrope's signature are sound. on the other hand, his political remarks appear to me devoid of all merit.

the only parts where i'd say hyena is wrong are: 1. mocking dead ppl is one thing, making fun of government's choice in politics is quite another; and although some might think the second is a direct consequence of the former, it is everybody's right to disagree and therefore be very critical towards the powers that be and their choices. the assumption that the u.s. government's decisions to face the national threat should be considered valid by everybody is totalitarian in nature and constitutes a link between two facts who are not necessarily tied in the way they are pictured to be. 2. i don't second the thought that all tragedies and dramatic situations have to be above and beyond the exercise of humour. neither does hyena. :) that's why i find preposterous and a bit beside the point to play the zealot to the point of banning all irony and humour in this specific situation. no national security issue will ever convince me that i have to give up on criticism to embrace passive agreement.

the parts where i don't concur with thanatos are much more. ;) 1. i don't really think trying to avoid the risk of being the object of more terroristic attacks should be considered as a restraint over freedom of speech. freedom of speech is about being entitled to express your own opinion no matter how unpleasant it might be, but it's definitely not about compromising the lives of thousands and/or national security through acts that can effectively pose a threat to ppl's safety. and after two hijacked planes crashed into two of your major buildings, i guess you are entitled to infer someone is trying to jeopardize your peaceful existence. 2. the poverty-stricken afghan families are so poverty-stricken because - in accord to their form of government - they devote their lives to devise unpleasant ways to slit some western throats. this is no big conspiracy theory. afghan government is not a puppet in the hands of the same u.s. of a. who are trying to bring it down, because it would be rather silly to have a country you control repeatedly try to crash your own planes into your own skyscrapers. the afghan government is an entity of its own, supporting a system of beliefs that is dangerous for the vast majority of ppl, who - though not perfect at all - do not exactly have in their agenda to go and slaughter as many infidels as possible. 3. just the idea that the u.s. could have concocted a suicidal plan just because they're trigger happy sounds to me absolutely unreasonable. i cannot possibly think the u.s needed such a poor and sorry excuse for doing anything, also at the same time losing popularity amongst their own citizens and sending out to the rest of the world the impression that they were weak at the core.
in short, i think the motives for retaliations are crystal clear and quite worthy of respect.

@hyena: remember the tickets for the festival. and it's "equal rites", not "rights". :p

rahvin.

rahve, i didn't attempt censorship on anyone. i just said i found that attachment distasteful and i gave my reasons. i didn't even think of "should not allowed" lines, it was more "should not come to a sensible person's mind", which is not censorship but opinion. you're *rite* about the fest, will do, possibly not today since i'm in the deepest bubu, but tomorrow it's a sure thing.

hyena (bu)

just give me a little hint there: is it a "bu", a "bubu", a "bubububu" or *forbidden word*?

hyena

simon?

everyone please join me on this quest, it's going to take forever if it's me and rahve only (especially if he now posts stuff like "satan")
