*nods*

Don't make him skip over Doug Adams :(

I recommended long Dark Teatime of the Soul too in IRC.

Stephen King's Eyes of the Dragon. It's not the typical King horror-type novel and if you have read any of the Dark Tower series, there are some tie-ins. Much of the other books on your list would require way too much thinking for a vacation.

Read the Gaiman books, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and the Iliad, which is of course the greatest story ever. Chuck Palathingy is pretty overrated, though not bad. Dan Brown fuckin sucks.

With Iliad... do I need to read oddysey or something (i.e, are they connected?)

This BEGS me to go into more detail, but in short - no, you don't need to read the Odyssey but it will do no harm. Read it (I mean the Iliad) because it is the first known example of story telling we have, because it's dynamics are fascinating, the story itself is compelling and because for over 1000 years the Greek and Roman aristocracy considered it the must read for any intelligent young man and since both civilisations kick the ass of our own, then we should take heed and TEACH HOMER IN FUCKING SCHOOLS.

Whoever said Gaiman, go with it. His narrative kicks serious butt. Especially American Gods <3.

Take Wilde because he was one flamboyant NUT and I fucking love him.

Don't take Nietzsche because he's rarely understood and needs heavy study to comprehend. (Beyond Good and Evil is interesting, stylistically and because it can be read without paying *too* much attention, for the most part). Also, don't take Leary unless it's the first chunk of Politics, because the rest is terrible.

Otherland is all right. Tad Williams tends to draw the fuck out of his books which makes for a lot of useless words, but overall the story of Otherland is pretty neat. It's a lot better than Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.

Otherland interests me because of HANSI. I have a list of all the things that inspired his writings.

*grin!*

But I hate beginning a series I cannot complete.

I read the first Abarat and nearly died when I heard it was a work in progress.

I cannot abide King. I liked Dreamcatcher (if it had been edited better I'd have liked it more) but the rest of his catalogue bores me.

I really haven't read too much, started a few of his books and I just didn't find his writing too interesting.

but as for the book list, I have nothing to add other than the ones recommended already, I second. Although I don't think anyone suggested yes to that PETER PAN!!

big yesses to Gaiman, Hitchhikers, Illiad

JM Barrie went to my high school, and he lived just over the river from my old childhood home. It's a wonderful story is Peter Pan :)
