Just wondering if anybody here has any preferences and/or tricks on booking tours. So far I've been booking by myself through myspace but I'm wondering if there are better ways.
Until serious money and long tours happen, I don't see why bands / artists should have a touring manager.
They're just eating at your (non) funds.
Also, I'd only ever employ other people for a job that I couldn't physically do myself.. so if you're getting booked / offered beyond what you can reply to and organise - then that's a good time!
It's a cliche but it really is about who, not what, you know. Good agents get you better gigs, if you don't know the people putting on the decent gigs you need an agent who does. Of course, getting to know the agent is a job in itself.

I made a site that lists a lot of Finlands venues WITH contact information AND technical information of the venues and I got majority of the info from touring the country and theres currently 112 venues in the list ranging from 50 intaking small pubs to huge 1500 halls. So if you just have a good sounding band and you're so smooth that you can convince people on the phone, you can book yourself a pretty good tour here in Finland. The site is http://www.keikkapaikka.info , but most likely no one else except Finns can use and abuse it.
