We've been anxiously awaiting Boondock Saints 2: All Saint's Day for years, but forgive us if we were skeptical it would ever actually get made. Not only had director Troy Duffy pissed off seemingly everyone in Hollywood, but the movie had been in production hell so long that it was starting to tread into Chinese Democracy territory. Or maybe Duke Nukem Forever.
Regardless, you can imagine our shock and awe when our inbox suddenly contained news that not only had the film been greenlit, but it had actually begun production! And for anyone keeping track, both Duke and Democracy look ready for public consumption, too. Apparently miracles do indeed happen.

Production for All Saints Day began on Oct. 20 in Toronto. No real word on who's financing the picture, distributing it, or when it will be in theaters, but it is definitely on its way. Most of the cast is back, too, including Billy Connolly, David Della Rocco and Brian Mahooney. Willem Dafoe unfortunately seems out of the picture, but other than that, fans should be satisfied...for now. The story takes place 10 years after the first film and centers on the brothers' actions after being framed for the murder of a priest.

PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD!

Boondock Saints is a fantastic movie but its also a great example of how a director managed to alienate himself from Hollywood and destroy a potential career. Boondock saints is one of the greatest films ever made and the director has immense talent despite his huge ego which just about derailed the entire flm. After MANY years we are going to be getting a sequel to Boondock Saints and the huge news is the original cast will be back.

Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus have returned as the McManus brothers. Some original characters (Billy Connolly, David Della Rocco, Brian Mahoney) are returning and some new characters (Clifton Collins Jr., JoJo Rhama, and more) will be introduced into the story. The plot of the film goes like so courtesy of GeeksOfDoom;

"The boys (Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery) and their father Il Duce (Billy Connolly) have been living in seclusion, deep in Ireland on a sheep farm, away from everything, when Il Duce’s brother comes to tell them that a priest was murdered in Boston and it was set up to look like it was done by the Saints.

The boys rush back to deal with it, while they’re supposedly ailing father stays on the farm. There’s a new character who’s kind of the Rocco character named Romeo; funny, but much more bad ass. As soon as the brothers land, they start picking off anyone who may be tied to this framing.

Willem Dafoe is not in the sequel, a new FBI detective comes into play — a female with a strong southern accent. She wants to catch the Saints and is working with some of the detectives in the first movie (like Bob Marley) who, as we know, decided the Saints were good and began helping them, but they don’t think she knows this, so they need to go with that. Eventually their father comes back into play and tells them what’s going on, which sets in motion a full-on flashback of the story of Il Duce from day one."
