Somera Sol is a quirky release with solid grooves and the wailings of a truly characteristic vocalist. The soundscapes Brant Bjork and the Bros create are mellow and accessible; groovy at times, they can also be bland often reminiscent of Brant’s previous work with Kyuss but less exciting. The music’s accessibility bodes well for radio play, but as a result can feel lacklustre, especially to the more demanding members of metal’s listening base.

’Turn Yourself On’ is a highlight, with a catchy groove, and tasteful light lead electric guitar that loops over the main guitar lines to create moments of interest Again, the vocalist Brant Bjork proves a strong addition to the band; his accent has a slight drawl and is quite weird at times, but accompanies the underlying musical themes rather well. Performances on the album are sufficient, but rarely prove memorable, leaving us with rock that proves somewhat enjoyable at times, but can also feel derivative.

Thus Brant Bjork would be recommended to people looking for a slow paced work with solid grooves, but this may only make up a small portion of the metal audience.
