Anyone else feel that parts of this record sound like Guitar Pro?

In particular the start of 'Into the Nothing'. Almost can't believe how heavily edited this album is. If it weren't for all the analogue processing and pumping it probably wouldn't sound like a rock record at all!

Yep. It's pretty ridiculous. Ironically there is a really obvious and annoying ess in the first song "Fade Away" during the last chorus. Missed that edit... Must have needed more time for guitar programming!

Do you like the sound of the record? I thought I liked it for a long while, but now I think Ben Grosse would have done a way more fitting mix than Bendeth. That new Red album slays mix wise. Dear Agony doesn't really sound like a band, but then again, it's more of a solo project than a band haha.

Yeah this one is really weird for me, and I have to guess that it was an artist decision on the part of BB's, since Bendeth's stuff usually sounds really natural (just tightly tracked), especially when he produces/tracks. Can't say I'm at all into anything but how big it is, because even the songwriting is particularly bland.

Compare Dear Agony to BB's second album "We Are Not Alone." It's like night and day. WANA sounds much cleaner and more organic. No where near as much processing as Dear Agony.

Jasen Rauch co wrote a couple of songs with Ben.
Red has very similar riffs and that sweet mechanical sound.

Now that you´ve mentioned, yes, but I wouldn´t call it bad production. On this genre I like Chevelle better, really dig the guitar tones.

I find this album and Red's new album to be the best sounding albums of the genre to come out to date. Incredible sounding.

The "Dear Agony" album has some bad stuff unfortunatly..
Bad autotuning in some places and REALLY bad compression aswell..
I must say I enjoyed the earlier works better.. when it didn't sound so artifical.. :/

I think a lot of it is seriously just super ridiculous editing on the guitars , in addition to maybe crazy tight edits with silence for some riffs. I don't really mind it.

I think it's overboard, personally. I use it as an example of how far not to go. The record is too loud, badly over-compressed, and over-edited. A bit strong on the mid-bass too, which would probably make it mud out on a lot of speaker systems.

holy shit, im totally on the opposite side here. i love this album. these riffs soudn like guitar pro at times, but still i dont think any non guitarist would say : this sounds like guitar pro.
it doesnt even feel like guitar pro, its just super tight.
this mix kick 95 % of all other productions i love. thats cool, we all have different ears (and brains).

the mid bass ermz mentioned is what i love about this record tbh. no mud on consumer speakers or earbuds (getting more and more important these days). just perfect (for me!)

The so-and-so songs are unfortunately more prominent than the heavy editing, squashing and auto-tuning. I don't mind this kind of sound as long as the music's cool though.

I love that about this record too. I don't feel its overcompressed or too loud, not enough to feel like its distorting. After comparing this and Red, the Dear Agony mix is probably the best alternative rock mix I've ever heard. If it had less filler songs and more heavy hitters like "I Will Not Bow" I think it would be perfect. With less obvious autotune of course.

Funny thread. I love it, I hate it, sounds mechanical, sounds auto tuned, sounds like the best mix I ever heard. This sounds to me like exactly what the band and the producer wanted. Then again, tight editing is not easy to do.
