Bride Of The Monster - Plague of Ages EP
Gomek.com - 018 - 2006
By Brandon Strader
Bride of the Monster honestly sound awesome from the first impressions of the song "Melleus Maleficarum" which explodes with blastbeats and kvlt screams, yet the music slows down and turns into a hard rock cheese-fest. With a name like Bride of the Monster, I guess it's not a huge surprise, but there was so much more potential in their sound if they would have continued with the brutality. Instead, they sound like The Ramones with a harder sound borrowing Kalmah's new air-growl vocalist's style.
These guys would be eaten by Gwar for breakfast. "Float" is a rocking piece with nice grunge riffs, squealing solos, and a few ridiculous vocal lines. You can make out some gratuitous profanity amongst the incoherent growls as well. The muddled production doesn't let any particular instrument shine, and everything is melted together in a way.
As a whole, Bride Of The Monster is smothered with cheese, ridiculous lyrics, and bad production. However, they do sound like they would be fun to see at a party that was serving a lot of good booze... or in a cloud of ganja smoke. For those with a sound mind, it may just sound like immature rock for kids who dress in Lordi costumes..
