Had to go to the Brazilian Consulate last month to help my 17th year old brother and i loved the buckhead surrondings...

Planning to get a "year-off" work in brazil and live in a US city. Buckhead/Atlanta is a good place to live?

yes, not a cheap place to live but a very nice section of Atlanta though

Depending on your income level, you might want to look to see if there are any house apartments for rent. They tend to be cheaper than the high rises, and you can probably get a better deal across the city line in Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven areas, yet still be within 5-10 minutes (or near enough to MARTA that you could walk to take the train/bus). It is a nice area, but honestly, there's not a whole lot going on there unless you have a specific bar you like to go to all the time.

Look in Va Highlands/ Little 5 as well - much more fun stuff to do for young folks - more access to live music. Access to MARTA via the East-West line.

If public transportation is not a concern, I highly suggest the Vinings area. It's close enough to downtown to do all the fun things but far enough away so that you avoid the major hassles like crime and traffic -- in fact, traffic is much easier to handle than in the Buckhead area. I drive to downtown Atlanta every morning and back to Vinings every evening and it's rare that I spend more than 15-20 minutes each way. Lots of great restaurants in the area and all your necessities (grocery stores, etc) are very close, too.
