Buffalo Sabres' goaltender Robin Lehner has unveiled his new mask, a tribute to the Swedish metal band IN FLAMES, which hails from Robin's hometown of Gothenburg. The mask was designed by pro airbrush artist and custom mask painter David Gunnarsson of Daveart Designs. Gunnarsson writes on Facebook: "Robin Lehner and I have been working together since Robin was a kid. It is an awesome feeling to cooperate for so many years and see a goalies hard work and see his way to become a pro. "It is time to unleash Robin Lehner's lastest mask art for his new team Buffalo Sabres. A mask design from a series of totally unique masks
"Robin and I had a vision to create a dark and gritty design, inspired by nightmares
With a violent look filled with scratches and marks and splatter, the design transforms into a tribute to Robin Lehner's favorite music
"The matte finish of the mask helps the design to become something totally spectacular
"The closer you come, the more details you will discover and the design transforms in front of your eyes." Robin is very involved in the mask design process and makes sure his designer knows all of his ideas. At 19, Lehner was the American Hockey League playoff MVP, leading Binghamton to the Calder Cup. That same year, he became the youngest goaltender to ever start and win a game for the Ottawa Senators. Lehner, now 24, was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for the 21st pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
