BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale welcomed Rock 100.5 The KATT's Cameron Buchholtz into his dressing room at this year's Rocklahoma festival to talk about the band's upcoming album, being on the "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" soundtrack, if there's any BUSH albums he doesn't like, playing at big festivals, and so much more. Speaking about the heavier musical direction of BUSH's next disc, "The Mind Plays Tricks On You", which is tentatively due in the fall, Rossdale said: "The last record [2017's 'Black And White Rainbows'], the last song we did [for it] was 'This Is War', and that was a little bit heavier and more of a nod to where it was going. Just because we we do so much live stuff that when I made the last record, there were some heavier songs and some songs that weren't so heavy. But sometimes it's nice to mix it up. I think it's all the live stuff, like coming to a place like this. There are so many festivals where we're the only non-heavy metal band. I think our performance is quite strong, so we get away with it. But I just explored that whole area of heavier music and had a great time doing it." Asked which heavier bands he has been listening to that might have led him in that direction, Gavin said: "SYSTEM OF A DOWN, I was really checking them out and just really enjoying, really diving into that band. SYSTEM would be one… As soon as you get into that world of detuning and different kind of tunings, it opened up a whole new world, and I found it really inspiring and got into it." Rossdale worked on "The Mind Plays Tricks On You" with film composer Tyler Bates, who has previously collaborated with Marilyn Manson. Gavin told Consequence Of Sound that he co-wrote four songs with Bates for BUSH's new album and Tyler co-produced the rest of the disc. "Tyler is a fantastic musician and songwriter and it's just great," Rossdale said. "The band is sounding great and I think the songs came together great… It's going to devastate people." BUSH will hit the road with LIVE later this spring. "The Alt-Imate Tour", a co-headline summer run, will see BUSH and LIVE celebrating the 25th anniversary of their respective landmark albums "Sixteen Stone" and "Throwing Copper". Produced by Live Nation, this hits-packed road show will hit arenas and outdoor amphitheaters in 33 cities across the country, kicking off June 6 in Mashantucket, Connecticut, with stops in Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta and more before wrapping September 8 in Rochester, Michigan at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre. BUSH's latest effort, 2017's "Black And White Rainbows", was crafted after the frontman went through a divorce with pop star/reality TV judge Gwen Stefani in 2015. BUSH's current lineup also includes guitarist Chris Traynor and bassist Corey Britz. The group, which broke up in 2002 but reunited in 2010, has released three albums since reforming.
